Sophie Bijjani is a French-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician and dancer whose debut album, Feu d’grand vent, was released in February 2018. A radiant performer with a supple voice and uncompromising elation, she has sparked joy in audiences across North America.
A fascination for the iconic stars of musical theatre like Judy Garland, Patti LuPone and Liza Minnelli, and a love for the French Chanson divas Barbara and Dalida, are at the core of her original music and performances. She is also intimate with the Great American Songbook and is an accomplished swing dancer. At age 17, she finished runner-up on the Canadian television show Zéro à Mille with her performance of Chicago’s All that Jazz , earning praise from judges Mahée Paiement and Yves Desgagnés. She has also performed her modern takes on standards with award-winning jazz pianists Lorraine Desmarais and Marianne Trudel.
Sophie plays in a variety of concert settings ranging from solo performances to duo, trio and big band ensembles. She received her degree in Jazz Voice, Professional Music and Song Techniques from Cégep Saint-Laurent in Montreal.
Sophie’s wanderlust is also a deep source of inspiration for her. She has traveled the continent extensively, many times on foot, searching for mountains to climb, lakes to skinny-dip in, and new communities to connect with. She strives to live her life out on the leading edge, where adventures align her life and music with passion, joy, and magnificent surprises.
